Water paint. Ellie is my painter and she will get very creative when she has tons of space, so we normally use a large piece of card stock.
Backyard Scavenger Hunt. Get creative with the things around your yard and create a list of things they have to find and collect.
Make bookmarks. Precut some strips of construction paper and allow them to decorate their bookmarks using craft supples, crayons, etc.
Make cards for your friends & send them through the mail!
Make a pet rock. Let the kids find a rock, decorate it, and give it a name! If you’re really feeling it, make the new pet rock a birth certificate.
Nail painting party! Bring out the nail polish and glitter!!
Balloon Tennis! Make your tennis rackets out of some foam plates and paint stir sticks! Blow up your balloons and play some tennis.
Write a story! Allow the kids to make it up and you just direct them.
Build a city with all your blocks, legos, and Lincoln logs!
Play Dough! If you don’t have play dough toys bring out some cookie cutters, spoons, and forks! It doesn’t take the best of things to make kids content!
Build a cup tower! Use sheets of card stock between levels to make an even larger tower!
Start a drawling journal. Have the kids draw about their day 15-20 minutes before you start the bedtime stories!
Play dress up! From head to toe encourage them to get into character and help them look the part!
Make a paper chain. If you have several different colors this will be a good time to create some fun patterns.
Have a game night. Bring out all the kids favorite games and eat some fun snacks.
Have a dance party! This is one of our all time favs. We seriously love to dance and I’m so thankful there’s no video proof of me dancing with them!! haha
Tic-Tac-Toe! This doesn’t have to be done with paper and pen. Get creative…. use toys!
Bake something sweet! Cake, cupcakes, or brownies are always good.
Make shadow puppets. This is a fun one to do about 30 minutes before your bedtime routine! Turn out the lights, find a blank wall, and get your flashlights ready!
A coloring contest! Get creative for your prizes.
Build a teepee! My dad made us several awesome teepees growing up and I am determined to make one for the kids this spring!
Play doctor. And don’t forget to set up a doctors office first!
Plant some seeds! There’s no better time to start growing some veggies and fruits inside!
Uno!! My kids will seriously play this game for hours and beat me almost every time. This was one of my favorite game growing up, so I started them early!
A fun craft (We have a recent blog for that called “A Week of Crafts while Quarantined!”) We love crafts in this house and love to share them with everyone!
Create an indoor obstacle course. Make an obstacle course using streamers, balloons, cones, whatever you can get your hands on!
Color scavenger hunt! Find them a paper bag and put all the colors they need to find outside on it!
Movie night!! Pop some popcorn & cuddle up!
Finish a challenging puzzle. This normally takes us several days, sometimes weeks! But we always start ours on a large poster board so I can move it out of the way when we need break!
Make edible slime! You can use pudding as the main ingredient and worry a little less.
Random craft time. Lay out random craft supplies and allow them to create whatever they want! We do this almost daily and if you do it before you start preparing dinner…. it might save your sanity!
Chalk Art. Don’t worry, if you do not have a space outside to play with chalk just get some large black poster boards! They do the trick. You can even use black duck tape to tape a few together and draw out your hopscotch!
Tower challenge! Use marshmallows and toothpicks to build a tower.
Make a blanket fort. Bring all those sheets and blankets together for the biggest fort ever!
Write a poem! This is a great chance to introduce rhyming words if they aren’t familiar with them already.
Make a noodle necklace. Before you start you could even paint the noodles!
Symmetrical painting! Cut out any shape you want and fold it in half (Easter is coming so an egg would be fun!). Unfold the shape, paint one side, and then fold it again.
Stretch! We all need a really good stretch session every now and then!!
Make jewelry. Bring out the beads and make some jewelry! My kiddos also love for me to hand crochet jewelry while they pick out their beads.
Skittles paint. Split your bag of skittles up by color and place each color in a small cup of water. Let sit until the water is colored and then use your brushes to paint.
Have a picnic. Pack up your lunches and head outside for a picnic!
Blow Bubbles! I’m not sure at what age kids stop loving bubbles, but mine still love them!
Make tissue paper art! Growing up we would always make flowers, but see what else you can come up with.
Water fight! Send them to the backyard with a few buckets of water, some sponges, and water guns!
Mini Golf. Set up a mini golf range in the backyard.
Make a bird feeder! Get on Pinterest and get creative on this one.
Start a fairy garden. This is something I’m really wanting to do with Ellie soon!! I think she will love it.
Build a popsicle stick house! I feel like I made these all the time growing up, yet I have failed to make one with my kids…. oops!
Ice cream in a bag! It’s always the perfect time for ice cream.
Face paint! I know us moms are not the zoo professionals… but I think our kids would appreciate the effort and love it anyways!
